Bea Gergely, a Budapest-based freelance photo reporter, attended Orlai Produkció’s adaptation of Amadeus, a play by British playwright and screenwriter Sir Peter Sheffer. The play offers the audience a fictionalized version of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s life. The narrative is told from the perspective of fellow composer Antonio Salieri who — as a devout Catholic and as someone who is highly envious of Mozart’s success — cannot comprehend how the Austrian composer could write such stunning pieces, yet so often conduct himself in such an oafish and uncouth manner. Salieri sets out to take revenge by attempting to ruin Mozart’s reputation and career.
Orlai Produkció’s version of Amadeus is being performed at Budapest’s Belvárosi Színház (Inner City Theatre) on August 25th, 26th and 27th, 2014. János Kulka plays Salieri and Tamás Keresztes has been cast in the role of Mozart.
