A memorable “Hungarian” goal in the English Premier League

One of the most amazing goals ever happened in January 2012 at Goodison Park, Liverpool during an English Premier League match. Everton hosted Bolton when in the 63rd minute Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard made a right-footed kick from about 5 meters inside his own penalty line. The ball flew almost 100 yards, bounced once and ended up in Bolton’s net. (Watch the amazing goal here.)

The fans roared, Bolton goalie Adam Bogdan was shocked, and Howard hardly reacted. The goal was legitimate but everybody agreed that the wind conditions in the stadium were unusual. Howard is a talented player but this goal had more to do with the wind than his kick.

Howard spoke with Bogdan after the match. “I let him know that I was feeling for him,” he said. “It’s not a nice place to be. I’ve been there before, a long, long time ago, and that was why I didn’t celebrate.”

The freakish goal is now part of Hungarian soccer history since both goalies were Hungarian!
